I am SO excited this year to be co-hosting the Christmas Readathon alongside the lovely Ceri Louise Reads.
Earlier this year, I put out a quick tweet about how ever since I got into Bookstagram and the rest of bookish social media, I had always wanted to be involved in a Christmas-themed readathon. As a Christmas lover of Buddy the Elf proportions, I love everything to do with this time of year; the cold weather; hot drinks; bright, twinkling lights; beautifully decorated trees; the food…
Every year I had sat on a few ideas, thinking on how much fun it would be to create festive reading prompts, snow-covered graphics, and most important of all, be inspired to read throughout the busiest time of the year.
Although my tweet didn’t get too much attention initially, it was later directed towards Ceri who invited me to be a co-host for her Christmas Readathon. I was absolutely delighted! We soon got to plan coming up with prompts for this year’s theme which is *drumroll please* Christmas Films!

Here are the prompts for the readathon this year:
1. The Muppet Christmas Carol – a book featuring ghosts or time travel

2. The Polar Express – a book with a journey

3. Home Alone – a book featuring thieves, con artists, or tricksters

4. Love Actually – a book told from multiple POVs

5. Deck the Halls – a book with a festive word in the title

6. Arthur Christmas – a sweet or cosy read

7. Elf – Jolabokaflod – buy someone a book and spend some of Christmas Eve reading

As this is a super relaxed readathon, you can adapt and interpret prompts however you wish, or even skip them altogether. Pick which ones you like and roll with it! It’s all about having fun and enjoying cosy time reading.
I am extremely excited about the Jolabokaflod prompt. Having heard of this concept before but never participated, I have already got plans to go shopping with my husband so we can buy each other a book to read on Christmas Eve. This is extra special this year as we are spending Christmas apart (hopefully for the very last time!). As he is Spanish and all his family live in Spain, we have spent nearly all of our Christmases apart and although it wasn’t out plan for this year, due to timings with his brother’s time off from working in Ireland- and me needing to stay to look after our dog- it has just worked out this way. Being able to sit thousands of kilometres apart but know that the other is reading the book chosen for them at the same time should bring us some comfort.
I do hope you’ll join in with our readathon! We’d love to see you share your TBRs so if you post one, please do tag us on Twitter @ChristmasReads. I’ll be posting mine soon, once I have decided on what I plan to read. I always get a bit overly ambitious with readathons but I’m optimistic that I will be able to complete all the prompts.
Also, if you haven’t already, check out Ceri’s YouTube video all about the readathon here.
We also have fun graphics for you to fill in with your TBRs or to show your progress throughout the readathon. For those, check out our Twitter where those will be posted soon.
