Tackling the TBR: 3 Books I’m reading in April

The Light Years is a book that was recommended to me by Emma from Book Break and Drinking By My Shelf in her video which did some excellent bookish matchmaking. (I’ve added a time stamp to the video link above.) I wanted to find a book with a family saga that spans years and Emma came through with this fantastic sounding book which looks like a perfect fit. At the time, I was busy with other reading so this got immediately purchased and then added to my TBR. I reckon, nearly three years on, it’s finally time to embark on this long read (550+ pages!)

The Light Years is a the first in a series that covers generations of a privileged family as they navigate life, including during the Second World War, following the family for three decades. I’m expecting to love this one, and if so, then there are four more books in the series to catch up on!

The second book on my TBR for April is Vladimir by Julia May Jonas. Vladimir covers the life of an English professor dealing with the aftermath following a number of allegations being made against her husband, a fellow professor. The books follows the complications and extra-marital pursuits throughout their relationship, and how the allegations have shaken their world.

I am expecting this book to be an uncomfortable read, particularly as it covers the power imbalances and issues around consent in professor- student relationships.

I picked this up as I enjoyed a book with a similar kind of theme which was My Dark Vanessa, which I have 5 stars. It was truly the most challenging book I had read in a while, with some incredibly dark and repulsive scenes but I found the main character to be so complex, multi-dimensional, and utterly frustrating to read (to put it mildly).

This is also a book that seems to be quite polarising, which is usually a good sign for me!

Piranesi by Susanna Clarke is a book that has intimidated me for a while, despite it being recommended to me by so many people! Finding out exactly what the book is a bit is a bit tricky, and to be honest, I think going into it knowing as little as possible is the best way forward. All I know is that it is mysterious, clever, and totally unique- and to me that sounds like the ideal read for me.

So, follow-along with me as I try to get through April’s TBR. It may only be three books but it will be three books more than I have read most months so far this year. I am also in the middle of a manga and several non-fiction audiobooks so I will be operating at maximum capacity!

As I mentioned above, drop me a comment below or over on Instagram if you’ve read any of these, or if you’d like to do a buddy read, as well as the books you’re planning to read in April. I hope you all have a great reading month!
