My TBR for The Christmas Readathon

As I write this post I am surrounded by twinkling fairy lights, I have a warm mug of tea in my hands, and on my table (and Kindle) sits a stack of books ready to be read for The Christmas Readathon 2023!

If you haven’t read my post all about the readathon, you can find it here, including all the prompts:

For the most chill of readathons, I’ve put together a laid-back TBR list that fulfils the prompts, combining several, and ensures that I will make proper progress amidst the busiest season of the year. Usually, I have reading ambitions well beyond my abilities in December!

A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens

    Prompts:

Jacob Marley: Read A Christmas Carol and/or watch an adaption of your choice.

Ghost of Christmas Past: read a book set in a different time period.

A Christmas Carol is one of my favourite books of all time and one that I reread every single Christmas. It is the perfect festive read and has inspired so many adaptions and retellings. Speaking of …

Every Day is Christmas by Karen Schaler

    Prompts:

Scrooge: Read a book with an unlikeable character.

Ghost of Christmas Yet To Come: Read a book with magic or a supernatural element.

This is a book I have made a small start on and found it very fun! It’s A Christmas Carol retelling but with a self-aware, nudge-nudge-wink-wink approach.

I also might try to read Divine Rivals by Rebecca Ross to fulfil the magic prompt, if I have time.

It Happened One Christmas by Chantel Guertin

    Fezziwig: Read a feel-good book.

Bob Cratchit: Enjoy some time outdoors with an audiobook

I received this as an ALC from Libro.FM as part of their influencer programme, and I’m super excited to listen to this on a wintery (albeit not too cold here in Spain) walk.

Ghost of Christmas Present: Jolabokaflod. Buy someone a book and spend some time on Christmas Eve reading.

This one we will have to wait and see as to what my husband is going to buy me! He has been given a list of suggestions but I am not sure what he will go for.

Finally, we have the last prompt for this readathon:

Tiny Tim: Take a break from reading and do something nice for a friend, family member, or stranger.

This year, I have gotten a head start on this prompt by making a donation to Action For Children, to ensure that young people living in poverty have access to books, toys and warm bedding. You can join me in donating here. I am also going to be doing some baking to surprise my friends, family, and neighbours.

We hope you’ll join in with the festive fun this week! You can find all the graphics ready to download on Twitter and Instagram for you to share your TBRs.
