In the past, making a Tackling the TBR post has been brilliant at keeping me accountable for actually reading the books on my TBR. I am such a big mood reader and also extremely easily influenced so am often swept away by hype instead of picking up books that I own, many of which I am confident I will love.

If I’m honest, my TBR has never been more out of control. As someone who tries to keep a relatively reasonable book collection due to my minimalist aspirations, I currently have over fifty books on my shelves that I have not read. I was a little horrified when I discovered this: last time I had counted it was about 25! Moving to Spain and not having the same access to library books in English like I used to has definitely required me to buy more books- even though I am still a dedicated Libby user. I’m regularly unhauling books though, which go off to the free libraries around my city.
The books I plan to read this month:

The Hero of Ages by Brandon Sanderson has been the thorn in my side for years. I find these long books so intimidating to pick up but once I’m into them I really do enjoy them. I’m predicting this to be a 5-star already.

The Makioka Sisters by Jun’ichirō Tanizaki was a book I picked up for Jen Campbell’s book club last year. I fell behind on reading at that point in time (read: thesis submission) and ended up not reading it in time. However, I bought my husband a copy in Japanese so we can buddy read it together.

Papyrus by Irene Vallejo was a Christmas gift from my mother-in-law who loved this book. It’s something totally out of my comfort zone but her and I tend to share similar taste in books (In the past she gifted me Hamnet– 5-stars, and I gifted her The Memory Police and Yellowface, both of which she really liked).

Two Twisted Crowns by Rachel Gillig is one of the most-hyped books on my TBR. I really enjoyed book 1 and I’m hoping that this one will be even better.
