The most relaxed readathon returns for 2024, this time themed around Christmas food.
From the 17th to the 31st of DecemberCeri Louise Reads and I will be hosting our favourite bookish event of the year, encouraging cosy nights in reading, plenty of snacks, and maybe taking a few books off the TBR before the end of 2024.
As always, we encourage you to tackle the prompts however you like. You can read 7 books, or 1 book. Adapt, interpret, or ignore prompts to your heart’s content, we aren’t going to judge. We would love for you to join in the challenge over on Storygraph or to share your TBR stacks on Instagram. You can tag us @readwhileitrains and @cerilouisereads so we can share them.
Prompt 1: Brussels Sprouts – read a book outside your comfort zone.
Prompt 2: Gingerbread House – read a book with family and friendship at the centre of the story.
Prompt 3: Mince Pies: read a book with less than 250 pages.
Prompt 4: Hot Chocolate – read a cosy book (bonus points if you’re sipping your favourite winter drink at the time).
Prompt 5: Pigs in Blankets – Jolabokaflod, buy someone a book and spend some of Christmas Eve reading. Jolabokaflod is an Icelandic tradition that we include every year.
Prompt 6: Candy Canes – read a book with a festive cover.
Prompt 7: Christmas Pudding – read a book with magic or surprises.
On a personal note, this Christmas I will be heading towards the end of my pregnancy so I will be taking it as easy as possible. I have my eye on a few festive audiobooks, and plan to do my annual reread of A Christmas Carol, but otherwise I hope to be on the sofa, hopefully with some Christmas cookies in hand.
Whatever your plans are, we hope you will join us for some very relaxed reading over what can be the busiest time of the year.
